MEMPHIS CROSSROADS |

Crossroads was an artist showcase featuring the mid-south's new and
upcoming "Original" bands and songwriters. Artists would
submit their material in hopes of getting a performance slot for the
three-day event sponsored by BMI.
At the time of my submission, I had been performing only cover material
for many years. I nervously sent my tunes off thinking to
myself that I was really stepping out on a limb. I got a
slot in the singer-songwriter category and was scheduled to play at
Blues Hall on Beale Street.
At the time, it seemed like some type of forced masochism because it was frightening for me to step out there and play my OWN material for the first time. Ahhh.....There's that old saying about one door closing and another opening. Memphis Crossroads opened a new door for me and closed my thoughts of always being a cover band performer. It truly was a crossroad in my life and changed the direction of my music career as well as helped me to grow as an artist. I was fortunate to have two great accompanists for the debut: Andy Graham on congas and Grady Gambrell on guitar. It was a perfect night, surrounded by supportive family and friends. Many special thanks to Loretta West who captured this "first time" event on film. Because the lighting was poor, I only have a few snapshots but I've included them along with some of the video footage below. |
