| FINDING GRACELAND | ||||
| I
received a call from Nancy Apple
about doing a movie
that was being filmed in Memphis called Finding Graceland.
The film company needed a couple of girls to
be Harvey Keitel's
back-up
singers for his big finale as Elvis.
Reba Russell
and I agreed to be the "Viva Las Vegas"
chicks. Nancy and several other local Memphis musicians were
the back-up band for Harvey's big scene as well as Bridget
Fonda's, Marilyn Monroe finale.
All of the footage was filmed at The Hollywood Casino in Tunica, MS under
the direction of David Winkler. The make-up, wardrobe and hair crew were wanting to give us that extra large 80's Vegas look. Becky wore a metal halter top, weighing about 30-pounds and I was achin' to the feel of 9" stilettos. Topping the ensemble was my very own, genuine Elvis TCB necklace baby! All of the takes were pantomimed and there were some pretty funny moments watching everybody do their spiel. Johnathon Schaech who played Bridget Fonda's leading man came backstage with us for awhile. He was very gracious and we wound up having a little jam session to pass the time between takes. Although Finding Graceland never made it to the Oscar nominee table, you can still catch it from time to time on HBO or CINEMAX. It was a great experience, leaving me with some incredibly funny memories. Plus, we all had a whole lot of fun doing it!
